Using Category Groups
Category Groups help you organize your event categories and control registration limits more effectively. They’re useful for both managing capacity and improving the registration experience for participants.
What Are Category Groups?
Category Groups let you organize your event categories into sections. They have three main functions:
1. Set a Group Field Limit
You can apply a Group Field Limit, which sets a maximum number of participants across all categories in the group.
Example:
Your event runs on Saturday and Sunday, and your venue holds 100 participants per day.
You can create:
-
A Saturday Group with a 100 person limit
-
A Sunday Group with a 100 person limit
Each group will stop accepting entries when its total participants from all categories in that group reaches the limit, regardless of how many categories are in it.
2. Organize the Registration Page
Category Groups help make your registration form easier to navigate. Use groups to separate your categories:
-
Different event days
-
Distances (e.g., 5K, 10K, Half Marathon)
-
Participant types (e.g., Athletes, Volunteers)
This makes it easier and quicker for participants to find the right option.
3. Enable Multi-Entry Discounts
You can base Multi-Entry Discounts on Category Groups. For example, you could offer a discount if someone registers for more than one category within the same group.
