You can validate USSS memberships during registration, this will make sure they are valid based on membership number, Name, and Date Of Birth.
To set that up, select the event from your list of events, and click "Category Setup." Click "Edit" next to the category. On the "Sanctioning Bodies" bar, check off the box next to "USSS Membership required to register for this category for US residents" and save.
